The Historic University and Woodlawn Avenues

The Woodlawn-University Avenue District is a visually distinctive collection of handsome free-standing houses, rowhouses, duplexes, apartment buildings, and institutional buildings in the Hyde Park community area that were mainly erected in the thirty-year period that followed its annexation to Chicago in 1889. The growth of this district was intimately tied to the development of the adjacent University of Chicago, which was established in 1892. The district's buildings, with their visually-significant designs based on historic architectural styles, use of traditional materials, and fine craftsmanship, form a visually coherent residential streetscapes that exemplify the best of the turn-of-the-twentieth century period in Chicago.

Please explore this website for more information about the proposed district.
